The exceptional Madeleine Caverns site is in the heart of the Ardeche Gorge, on its left bank. It rises above one of the narrowest portions of the vast canyon stretching over 30 kms. from Vallon Pont d’Arc to Saint Martin de l ‘Ardeche, a titanic structure of Cretaceous limestone.
Offering the most beautiful overlook in the gorge, with grandiose vertical cliffs, ledges, terraces, and riverbanks sheltering the unique biodiversity of this nature conservation site.
The cliff wall entrance gives direct access to a series of vast chambers with surprising and colorful formations. Visitors walk through several levels to fully appreciate the magic of this subterranean world.
The site is easily reached by the scenic Ardeche Gorge route with many overlooks. It’s especially popular and busy in the summer months.
The town of Saint Remèze, proprietor of the site, is a haven for ecology tourism, is near the Dent de Rez Mountain and the Gorge.
